Though last year was a disaster for the hospitality industry, things are looking up in 2021. Vaccines are being distributed, a digital vaccine passport is in the works, and a clutch of exciting new hotels are getting ready to open around the world. Even if you’re not quite ready to travel yet, keep these 12 upcoming hotels on your radar for when the time comes. For now, we can obsess over the photos of these hotels and start making lists.

The Rome EDITION

Marriott and Ian Schrager’s trendsetting EDITION brand is coming to the Eternal City as a beacon of minimalist design with 95 rooms and suites, a signature restaurant, and a rooftop terrace in an early-20th-century rationalist building near Via Veneto.

Soho House Tel Aviv

One of a handful of new houses by the It Brit brand, this 24-room hotel and member’s club is located in a former convent in Jaffa with an invitingly verdant pool and terrace.

 

1 Hotel Toronto

Eco-chic 1 Hotels will open a stylishly green new outpost designed by the Rockwell Group with 109 keys, rooftop bar, signature restaurant, and outpost of organic Mexican restaurant Casa Madera in Toronto’s hip King West Village.

 

Aman New York

Known for its high staff-to-guest ratios and sleek design, Aman is landing in the Big Apple’s century-old Crown Building on Fifth Avenue with an epic three-storey spa, a subterranean jazz club, two restaurants, and a new member’s club.

 

Six Senses Fort Barwara

A 14th-century fort originally owned by the Rajasthani royal family is being converted into a luxurious resort by wellness-focused Six Senses with 48 suites, three restaurants, extensive gardens, and a 30,000-square-foot spa.

 

Airelles Château de Versailles Le Grand Contrôle

Mere mortals will be able to book one of the 14 rooms and suites on the grounds of Versailles when this new hotel by Airelles opens with a restaurant by Alain Ducasse, a spa by Valmont, and unparalleled access to the legendary palace and grounds.

Rosewood Le Guanahani St. Barth

Long a favorite of the jet set, this luxe resort overlooking the Grand Cul-de-Sac and Marigot Bay has been taken over by Rosewood, which will unveil a renovation of the 66 rooms, suites, and villas, beachfront dining and pool, spa, and tennis courts.

 

Xigera Safari Lodge

The concept of this safari lodge in Botswana’s Okavango Delta is part lodging, part gallery, thanks to the range of works by contemporary African artists curated by Cape Town’s renowned Southern Guild gallery.

 

NoMad London

For NoMad’s first foray into Europe, the New York–born brand is taking over the historic Bow Street Magistrates Court and Police Station, which has been transformed into an eclectic hotel with 91 rooms, a greenhouse-inspired restaurant, an English pub with a twist, a subterranean lounge, and an art program influenced by the postwar avant-garde.

 

Four Seasons New Orleans

The Canadian brand’s Big Easy debut promises to be epic: it will take over the landmarked midcentury World Trade Center and International Trade Mart Tower with 341 rooms, rooftop observation deck, spa and swimming pool, private garden, and restaurants by renowned local chefs Alon Shaya and Donald Link.

 

Patina Maldives, Fari Islands

The inaugural resort in the new Patina brand by the masterminds behind Capella Hotels, this private island resort in the Maldives has a sustainable ethos that includes zero-waste kitchens, a solar plant providing renewable energy, and a partnership with the Olive Ridley Project, which rehabilitates injured turtles in the Indian Ocean.

Castello di Reschio

A project that’s been in the making for over 25 years, this 3,700-acre estate in the Umbrian countryside is preparing to unveil a 36-room hotel in a thousand-year-old castle restored by Count Benedikt Bolza, whose father purchased the estate in the ‘80s.
