Edgardo Osorio for Salvatore Ferragamo

Star power, squared.

Daily Edit: Edgardo Osorio for Salvatore Ferragamo

Italian shoe designer Salvatore Ferragamo was only 16-years-old when he arrived in Hollywood, opening a little bespoke shoe shop that quickly became a favourite amongst Golden Age starlets—Jean Harlow, Lauren Bacall, and Audrey Hepburn all glided across red carpets in Ferragamo heels. As a result, the brand’s identity, in the words of Ferragamo’s creative director Massimiliano Giornetti, “ … blended with glitter, and [became] as glamorous as the Hollywood celebrities who have historically chosen Ferragamo.”

Now, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Ferragamo’s arrival to Hollywood, the company unveils its first capsule collection, created in collaboration with young Colombian designer Edgardo Osorio. Currently the creative director of shoe label Aquazzura, Osorio began his career, accepting a position at Ferragamo after graduating from the London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martins when he was just 19. Osorio’s early mentorship at the brand informed the capsule’s 12 new designs. “We started out with the legendary Marilyn pump, the POIS pattern, the Dream shoe, and Amber ankle boot–and aimed to focus on their signature shapes while emphasizing playfulness,” says Giornetti of the process behind the collaboration.

Osorio’s touch has contributed to a collection blossoming with coquettish embellishments such as bows, lace, and arresting, rainbow-feather wings. The pieces feel celebratory in a way that evokes award-show after-parties and The Hollywood Roosevelt hotel’s neon-lit, poolside Tropicana bar circa 1955—charged with Golden Age elegance and contemporary energy. Along with glamour, Giornetti asserts “the Ferragamo culture is deep-rooted in the idea of perfection and balance.” This capsule reflects those core values, and conveys Salvatore Ferragamo’s Hollywood story with modern style.
