Cutler and Gross Eyewear

Time frame.

Retro simplicity, swingers’ style, and a penchant for revolution—there’s something time-honoured about 1960s London, and eyewear brand Cutler and Gross has captured it. This season’s line of throwback frames take a more modern slant, and are offset by design innovations drawn from new technology and organic materials. The combination is on par with watching the original British Avengers John Steed and Emma Peel on an iPad, or discovering Lulu’s ballad “To Sir, With Love” while streaming a Songza playlist. Today’s gentlemen and gentlewomen can choose from optical and sunglass models in tailored shapes that are detailed using modern laser techniques. The collection’s distinct Thunderball-meets-Skyfall vibe stems from the finishings: a camouflage print in green tortoiseshell; light milling to create a two-tone shadow effect; graduated acetate to blend opposing colours; and the option for a perforated or frosted frame finish. It’s classic London style with a modern twist—no time machine required.
