Gucci Garden

A fantastical take on the conventional museum.

Gucci Garden, Of Note, Summer 2018

Gucci continues to turn heads—figuratively and literally, since models carried replica heads at the fashion house’s fall/winter show in Milan this past February—as the “Guccification” phenomenon shows no sign of slowing. One of the latest projects by Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s creative director, is Gucci Garden, a fantastical take on the conventional museum.

Located in Piazza della Signoria in Florence and housed in a historic palazzo dating back to 1337, Gucci Museo (which opened back in 2011) had served as a shrine to the history of the house founded by Guccio Gucci in 1921. Now, reimagined as Gucci Garden, the eclectic multilevel galleria is part exhibition space curated by Maria Luisa Frisa, part retail space that stocks merchandise exclusively designed for Gucci Garden, and part dining space with Gucci Osteria, an all-day restaurant, where the chef is Massimo Bottura of three-star Michelin fame.
