On the outskirts of Victoria’s Fernwood neighbourhood, local, sustainably-sourced ingredients converge in Marta Café + Pantry. Nikita Williams, who has appeared as a private chef on Bravo, and Ellie Shortt, the founder of wellness company Whole Happy, have created a menu that celebrates the land and community of Vancouver Island. The café features rotating menu options such as avocado and pea tartine and baked eggs Florentine, as well as vegan and gluten-free dishes. The café itself, named after Williams’ family matriarch, provides an airy space with chic rustic design. A selection of goods from local artisans—Pi’lo linens, Silk Road teas, and Hands on Pottery ceramics—are available for purchase, centring the community-forward ethic of the founders.
