NUVO Magazine: Rad Hourani

Rad Hourani is garnering big nods from the fashion industry. A well-known Montreal-based stylist, Hourani began his fashion-forward career at 18, and was working with major publications by the time he’d turned 20. Now, the 25-year-old Jordan native has managed to land himself among the world’s top talents as a designer.

Last September, Hourani made his runway debut at the Spring prêt-à-porter shows in Paris, which was a real coup for a newcomer with no formal training in design. He describes his inspiration as “asexual” and “aseasonal”. “[It is] the essence of timeless style, drawn on a monochromatic and graphical canvas,” says Hourani of his Spring/Summer 2008 collection.

Minimalist and androgynous, Hourani’s designs have generated comparisons to fashion royalty like Helmut Lang and Ann Demeulemeester. He has been listed as one of the top 10 “contenders” on the influential website Style.com.

And it doesn’t stop there. After success in Paris, Hourani showcased his Fall/Winter 2008 collection at Fashion Week in New York. What does the visionary have in store for next season? Perfectly fitting with his scheme, “It’s a palette of blacks, touches of pure whites and intense reds; modern classics for anti-conformist individuals,” says Hourani. With Paris and New York under his belt, a stock list at Holt Renfrew, and with Barneys New York looking to buy, the future is promising for this multi-talented artist.
