French Candle Maker Germauld

NUVO Autumn 2015: Olfactory Design, Germauld, Of Note

Fragrance can evoke mood, place, or, in the case of French candle maker Germauld, complete scenarios inspired by the life of Mademoiselle Simone, who founded the line in 1947. These exquisite scents capture the essence of Paris. The Avenue de l’Opéra candle has citric top notes, a heart of jasmine, lily of the valley, patchouli, and lingering sandalwood; it recalls an evening when Mademoiselle, fresh from hearing Carmen, wanders in the drowsy heat of the night air. There’s also the effervescence of Boulevard Haussmann; the melange of vanilla and cookie that conjures up Place de la Madeleine; the incense, stone, and wood of Rue du Cloître Notre Dame. All it takes is a lit match, and you are transported to the City of Light.
