Salvatore Ferragamo Viva

Reimagining a house icon.

Since its debut in 1979, the round-toe, low-heeled pump with grosgrain ribbon and a gold buckle stamped with “Salvatore Ferragamo” has long been a badge of dolce vita chic. The Vara, as Fiamma Ferragamo (Salvatore’s late daughter) called the model she designed, remains a wardrobe staple. Creative director Paul Andrew, who has steered the fashion house since 2017, has reimagined the house icon. While Andrew’s appointment to the top job is fairly recent, his know-how stems from his work as a shoe designer (the first shoe designer to win the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2014).

Andrew’s interpretation of Salvatore Ferragamo’s best-selling shoe retains the original silhouette, refreshed with a pointed toe, sculptural block-form heel, and a larger bow. The Viva, as the shoe has been named, premiered at the spring/summer collections in Milan, and hits stores next week. First Vara and now Viva, welcome to the family.
