Glide down the escalator into the new Beauty Hall of Vancouver’s Holt Renfrew and you may feel like you’re entering a temple—one with tenets emphasizing luxury, loveliness, and treating oneself right. If that sounds like hyperbole, just imagine a 16,000-square-foot underground world of European marble riddled with 29 beauty counters, most allowing for generous seating—so you may have your makeup done at Charlotte Tilbury, or your arms massaged and perfumed at Jo Malone, uncrowded but for throw pillows and countertop orchids. The new hall sees added lines—Christian Louboutin’s spiked lipsticks and nail polishes now boast their own realm, as do DarFin creams and holistic Korean line Sulwahsoo. Several counters, including Christian Dior, Clé de Peau, and La Mer, harbour discreet private cabanas for facials and esthetic treatments, and the perfumeries have treats of their own, too: Holt Renfrew’s Giorgio Armani beauty counter opens with two bottles of Privé Charm, while Creed stocks 40 flacons of Amber Royal—both fragrances are rare limited editions with 1,000 bottles each in existence. Beauty lovers take note: there’s plenty to worship about this second-coming.
