Collect at IDS West

A spotlight on B.C.’s emerging artists.

This year, interior design convention IDS West has collaborated with the Vancouver Art Gallery’s Art Rentals & Sales division to create Collect, a new fine art showcase highlighting the works of 12 emerging or mid-career contemporary British Columbia-based artists.

As IDS West attracts approximately 36,000 design-minded visitors to its exhibitor gallery per year, Collect is a valuable opportunity for its featured local artists (who were selected from over 80 hopefuls) to raise their profiles, and adds another dimension through which visitors may deepen their understanding of the province’s creative culture.

“A goal of ours was to represent the range of work we have available,” explains Zoe Mackoff de Miranda, manager of the VAG’s Art Rental & Sales. “Everything from photography and collage to painting and screen printing, in styles that range from traditional Canadian landscape painting to more contemporary conceptual work [were selected].” Indeed, from David Burns’s subtle oil landscapes to Rebecca Chaperon’s enigmatic rainbow crystals, Collect highlights a broad spectrum of B.C.’s community of artists.
